Party this Saturday to celebrate completion of Highway 205

By J.J. Smith. It has actually taken 27 years to complete the six-lane expansion project of State Highway 205 and Goliad St. and this Saturday the City of Rockwall and Old Town Shoppes of Rockwall are hosting a “We Survived 205″ party to celebrate.

Scheduled on the downtown square from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m, the family-oriented event will include food, drinks, music, bounce houses for children and door prizes.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.

According to a City news release, the six-lane design was initially approved in 1993 after the the state highway department presented Rockwall officials with 13 alternative routes for the project.

But construction was delayed all the way until 2007 due to lack of state funding for the project that extends from just north of downtown Rockwall to the Sids Rd/SH 205 intersection south of I-30.

Merchants along SH 205 have also been asked to join the “Open for Business” sale to help celebrate the completed project.
