Bailey named new RISD Superintendent beginning in June
By J.J. Smith. Deputy Superintendent Jeff Bailey was officially named to become the next Rockwall ISD Superintendent June 7 at the Board of Trustees meeting Monday night.
Bailey was named the lone finalist for the position at the February board meeting after Dr. Gene Burton announced his decision to retire in January after serving for nine years in that office.
Prior to coming to Rockwall in his current position in May, 2009, Bailey had worked for the Plano ISD for 30 years. In 2007 he become the deputy superintendent in Plano, overseeing the day-to-day operations of 68 campuses.
After graduating from East Texas State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration, he began his career as a teacher and coach in Plano ISD in 1979.
He subsequently served as an assistant principal, personnel director and principal. As the area assistant superintendent for the East Cluster from 1997-2007, his responsibilities included the instructional and operational management of 27 campuses in the fastest growing region in the Plano district.
He and his wife, Janis, have been married for 24 years and have four children.
At the meeting, Bailey expressed his thanks to his family, current Superintendent of Schools Gene Burton, the Board of Trustees and the Rockwall ISD staff.
