Rockwall’s DeLoach named baseball player of week

By J.J. Smith. Rockwall High School’s hard-hitting senior catcher J.D. DeLoach was just named “Player of the Week” by the Dallas Morning News’ “High School Game Time” website for his performance Friday in the Yellow Jackets 17-4 victory over Carrollton R.L. Turner.

The 6’1″, 195 lb. DeLoach went 4-5, smashed three home runs, had nine rbis and scored five times – all in just one game.

“It was special. … but I am not going up there trying to hit home runs. I am trying to be a hard out,” he said about his performance.

“He has always been really good at hitting the ball the other way,” said his coach, Jeff Payne. “He has always had really fast hands. He’s getting balls to turn on, and he is obviously killing them. He keeps on getting better.”

The left handed batter who throws right-handed is currently hitting .344 for the season, with 7 home runs, 20 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

He will play at McLennan Community College in Waco next season.

His brother, Josh, is a sophomore third baseman for Rockwall.
