Half Price Books store to open soon in Rockwall

By J.J. Smith. The almost-ready Half-Price Books store in Rockwall will begin buying books this Monday through Saturday from 9 am-5 pm and will start selling books and be open for business on a regular basis beginning Monday, March 22.

It will open where Circuit City was previously located in the Rockwall Crossing Shopping Center, south of I-30 – between the freeway and Ralph Hall Parkway – at 959 E. I-30, Suite 101, 75087.

The new 9,700 square-foot store will be open seven days a week, buying and selling new and used books, magazines, comics, records, cassettes, videos, CDs, DVDs and collectible items.

According to spokesperson Rebekah Gannaway, the first 100 people through the door daily during their Great Opening celebration from March 22-28 will receive a free tote bag and $5 Half Price Books gift card (limit one per person, 16 years of age and up).

Each day, one lucky shopper will win a $100 gift card. Additional discounts will also be given:

  • Monday and Tuesday, customers receive a 40% discount coupon
  • Wednesday and Thursday, customers receive a 30% discount coupon
  • Friday and Saturday, customers receive a 20% discount coupon
  • Sunday, customers receive a 50% discount coupon

The Rockwall location will employ approximately 15 people. It will be the chain’s 109th location, and will be the third of approximately five new stores the book store is opening this year.

“We’ve been searching for a location in Rockwall literally for years,” said Kathy Doyle Thomas, executive vice president of Half Price Books.  “When this building became available, we realized we finally found the perfect place and got the ball rolling.”

Half Price Books first opened in 1972 in a converted laundromat in Dallas. Led then by co-founders Pat Anderson and Ken Gjemre, the company’s focus was to promote literacy and be kind to the environment.  More than 30 years later, Anderson’s daughter, Sharon Anderson Wright, is President and CEO of the company and says she still sticks close to the company’s founding principles.

Gannaway said the company donates millions of books each year that would have otherwise been thrown away and sponsors several major literacy programs.

Thousands of books each year are donated to hospitals, community centers and non-profit organizations through its Half Pint Library program to put books in the hands of children in need.

Half Price Books’ A, E, I, O & YOU program provides educational and incentive materials to help literacy organizations recruit volunteers, while its “B(eco)me” campaign encourages environmental responsibility among its customers.
