Rockwall-based Shoe Bank provides help, hope for Haiti

By Dawn Redig. When Rockwall resident Mike Barringer founded The Shoe Bank in 1989, his nonprofit’s mission was a simple one – to provide shoes for a few hundred homeless men in downtown Dallas.

Twenty years later, Barringer still works from his home office, single-handedly managing The Shoe Bank’s daily operations. But his efforts provide relief for more than 20,000 needy people across the globe each year – most of them children.
