Schools open; winter storm warnings posted

By J.J. Smith. It’s snowing! All Rockwall County schools are open today despite a Winter Storm Warning having been issued for the Dallas-Ft. Worth area until Midnight by the National Weather Service.

The snow started falling early this morning and by daybreak up to two inches covered much of the Rockwall County area.

Four to six more inches of snow will continue to fall throughout the day and into the night.

Temperatures are expected to remain at or near freezing most of the day. By tonight temperatures will drop into the 20s and make conditions very icy Friday morning.

The snow is expected to make travel difficult. All roadways are very slow. Road conditions remain slick and dangerous.

Over 150 flights have already been cancelled at DFW Airport and de-icing is being used for all planes, which causes about 20 minute delays per plane, according to DFW Airport officials.
