Former Rockwall bank vp, branch manager running for County Clerk office

By J.J. Smith. A former Rockwall bank vice president and branch manager, who’s lived in Rockwall for 20 years and serves on the executive board of the non-profit Soroptimist Club, has announced her campaign for Rockwall County Clerk.

Shelli Miller, who is currently a Rockwall Chamber of Commerce Ambassador, says she is well-qualified for the County Clerk position because there are so many similarities between the banking industry and county government.

“Every aspect of the clerk’s office is governed by federal and state laws and regulations in much the same way as the banking industry,” she said.

“The County Clerk’s office is responsible for maintaining legal records (such as deeds, liens and judgments), issuing marriage licenses, serving as clerk of the county and commissioner’s courts and recorder of the County.”

“With a seventeen year background in the banking industry, I have the qualifications and experience to manage the County Clerk’s office effectively and efficiently, while providing superior service to our customers, the people of Rockwall County.”

Miller said that, as an experienced manager and leader who is familiar with maintaining important documents and records with the confidentiality and security issues involved, she is now ready to bring her banking experience and expertise to county government.

“In May I graduated from Leadership Rockwall class of 2009. They’re an organization whose mission is ‘to identify and motivate emerging leaders, and to develop their potential for community involvement and leadership.”

“That experience gave me a new perspective of our local government.  It helped tremendously in my decision to run for County Clerk and further prepared me for this election.”

For the past 13 years, Miller said she has been an active volunteer and leader of the local Soroptomist Club, an international organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world.

The organization is best known for producing the annual “Rockwall Idol” program as a fundraiser for aiding local women and children.

She has served on their executive board for most of the past 10 years as President, President Elect, First Vice President and is currently Treasurer.

The candidate said she was also a Boy Scout leader for over eight years and that her two sons, who graduated from Rockwall public schools, both achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. She said she attends Lake Pointe Church.
