Rockwall Mayor Pro Tem files to run for County Clerk

David Sweet

By J.J. Smith. Rockwall Mayor Pro Tem David Sweet has filed to run for the office of Rockwall County Clerk in the March 2 Republican Primary and says, if elected, he will step down from his City Council seat he has held since 2007.

The office is currently open, after former County Clerk Lisa Constant was appointed as County Auditor in October.

Shelli Miller has also filed to run.

According to Sweet, he is well-qualified for the post because it is a customer service management position and he has a “tremendous amount of experience in improving customer service” and “record on leadership” as a result of his years of civic, professional and community service.

“My experience as a business manager, civic leader and family man will be an asset in serving the citizens of Rockwall County,” he said.

Since being elected as a Council member, he has served on the City’s C3 customer service subcommittee.

He said his record includes keeping a fiscally-conservative eye on the budget, improving customer service to Rockwall citizens and ensuring project deadlines were met, such as the Highway 205 By-Pass.

“My record shows that my leadership style encourages teamwork and results,” he said.

Employed in sales and customer service positions with Keebler, Pepsi and Coca Cola, Sweet says he is ready to provide the leadership that Rockwall County citizens have come to expect.

“Rockwall County is growing at a rapid pace, but quality customer service should not be sacrificed in the midst of growth,” he said.

“I will ensure that Rockwall County receives the customer service it deserves and exceeds its expectations. This County is a special place and it would an honor to continue to serve.”

Sweet has served as President of both the Rockwall County Republican Men’s Club and Rockwall County Young Republicans, plus is a former board member of the Rockwall Boys and Girls Club. He has also been a part of the radio announcer team which has broadcast Rockwall High School football games during the past two years.

He and his wife, Kim, have lived in Rockwall since 2001. They have two young sons, Austin and Brody. He is active in Rotary Club and attends First Baptist Church of Rockwall.
