Former teacher charged with sexual assault of student in his Rockwall County home

By J.J. Smith. A Rockwall County grand jury has indicted a former life skills teacher and assistant volleyball coach at Quinlan Ford High School on charges that he had a sexual relationship with one of his former female students at his home in Rockwall County June 1.

Kevin Lawrence Carr, 28, was charged Nov. 18 with sexual assault of a child and an improper relationship between educator and student.

The case was filed by the Quinlan Police Department and the Texas Rangers in the Rockwall County District Attorney’s office and 382 District Court, presided over by Judge Brett Hall.

School administrators were informed of a possible improper relationship between Carr and the student in September. Carr was suspended Nov. 23 by the Quinlan ISD Board of Trustees, and an investigation was initiated by the Quinlan Police Department with assistance from the Texas Rangers. Quinlan is located about 20 miles east of Rockwall via State Highway 76.

The former teacher was a nominee for the QISD athletic department’s Employee of the Year in 2008.

After his arrest Nov. 25, he was released after posting bonds in the amount of $45,000.

No trial date has yet been set in the case, but it will be soon, according to Rockwall County DA Kenda Culpepper.

Attempts to reach Carr and his attorney have not yet been successful.
