County-wide Christmas events begin tonight, Friday night, Saturday morning

By J.J. Smith. County-wide Christmas events will begin taking place tonight, Friday night and Saturday morning in Rockwall and Heath.

Royse City will host it’s Bells on Main Street Holiday Market & Parade Dec. 12, from Noon-6 pm, featuring floats and the Royse City High School marching band.

Tonight at 7 pm the City of Rockwall will present its 26th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in front of Rockwall City Hall at 385 S. Goliad St.

The free family-fun event will feature live entertainment, free cookies and drinks, craft making in Santa’s Workshop and visits with Santa Claus. For further information, call the Rockwall Parks and Recreation Department at 972-771-7740.

The City of Heath presents its annual Holiday in the Park at 7 pm, this Friday, Dec. 4, at the Heath Towne Center Park, located behind City Hall at 200 Laurence Drive.  

The event includes the lighting of the Christmas tree; children’s choirs from Amy Parks-Heath and Dorothy Smith Pullen Elementary Schools; free cocoa, wassail and cookies;, plus a visit from Santa Claus in the Heath Community Room, where he will pose for photos with children. Parents must bring their own cameras. 

Children can also ride around Towne Center Park on a miniature train. Those attending are invited to bring canned food donations to benefit Rockwall Helping Hands. For info call 972-771-6228.

The Rockwall County Kiwanis Club’s 40th annual Christmas parade will begin at 9 am this Sat., Dec. 5, in the Old Town Rockwall square, behind the County courthouse. The theme is a Lakeside Christmas. For info, call 972-722-6001.

The Rockwall Parks and Recreation Department will present three children’s activities during the Christmas season.

Gingerbread house-making for children, ages 5 – 12, will be Wednesday, Dec. 9, 4-6 pm.  

Breakfast With Santa will be Saturday, Dec. 12, at 9 am, at the R.I.S.D. Administration Gym, 1050 Williams St.  Free donuts, orange juice, activities and candy canes will be provided.    

Santa’s Workshop will be Saturday, Dec. 19. Children ages 5-10 can make free Holiday crafts, including bracelets, picture frames and magnets, to take home, wrap and give away as gifts.
