Culpepper Steak House wins Helping Hands’ Chef’s Shootout competition

Over 400 people jammed into Culpepper Steak House Oct. 14 to taste some of the best cooking that Rockwall’s best chefs have to offer for $50 per person, proclaiming Culpepper as the winner of the first annual ”Chef’s Shootout” fundraising event over Blue Canyon Kitchen and Ava’s Restaurant at the fundraiser for Rockwall’s Helping Hands agency.

For their cooking, Culpepper was awared the “Shoot Out trophy.” The event was actually dreamed up by Culpepper General Manager Joel Johnson.

Other competitors were Bin 303, Koyoto’s, The Oar House and Zanata’s.

Event-goers voted for their favorite chef”s offerings by placing bullets in a boot with the name of their favorite restaurant on it. Popular radio personality Mark Davis of WBAP-AM was on hand to help judge and emcee the event.

According to Helping Hands executive director Margo Nielsen, the agency is still in desperate need of food for the non-profit’s food pantry. Peanut butter and jelly and convenience foods such as macaroni and cheese are always popular and especially needed.
