Rockwall HCA scores winning TD in final minute, beats Arlington Fellowship, 52-48

ROCKWALL -  Rockwall’s Heritage Christian Academy celebrated its homecoming Friday night with an exciting 52-48 victory over Arlington Fellowship Academy, stopping AFA on the five-yard line as time expired.  

In the see-saw battle which saw seven lead changes, HCA scored the winning touchdown with just over a minute to go, when junior Asa Burke caught an 11-yard pass from junior quarterback Austin Pettit, Burke’s second TD of the night.

In the first half of the high-scoring affair, after AFA scored first, HCA stormed back with 22 unanswered points, on 4 and 55-yard pass receptions by Aaron Mateer from Austin Pettit, plus Burke’s four yard run.

AFA scored once again on a 27-yard pass, but HCA led at halftime, 22-14.

In the second half, AFA stormed back with 22 points in the third quarter to HCA’s 14 to tie the score at 36-36.  War Eagles’ scores came on two Austin Pettit TDs, on a one-yard plunge and a 15-yard scamper.

In the decisive fourth quarter, after AFA scored another TD, HCA’s Eric Bradley ran the ball in from three yards out. Then after AFA scored on a 26-yard pass, to take a 48-45 lead, HCA moved down the field and closed out the victory on Pettit’s 11-yard pass to Burke.

On the night, Pettit rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for 70 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Mateer caught four passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns, while converting on five of seven extra points.
