Lake Pointe locations offering extending hours for mammograms in October

By J.J. Smith. Lake Pointe Health Network is offering extended weekday and Saturday hours for mammogram appointments during October at each of their imaging locations in Rowlett, Rockwall and Forney as part of a national campaign by hospitals to encourage early detection of breast cancer.

The national “Picture Yourself Healthy” campaign is being held this month in recognition of October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Breast cancer is a leading cause of cancer deaths among women. More than 1,500 people die each day in the U.S. from cancer, according to the American Cancer Society.

Approximately 559,650 Americans are expected to succumb to the disease this year – one of every four deaths nationwide.

Lake Pointe wants to promote early detection and testing that could save the lives of the approximately 180,000 women who are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, according to Lake Pointe Marketing Manager Bobby Montgomery.

All of Lake Pointe’s imaging locations offer fully digital mammography, providing the latest in breast imaging technology, said Tracy Sifuentes, Director of Radiology with the Lake Pointe Health Network.

“Picture Yourself Healthy is about more than just remembering to get a mammogram,” she explained.

“It is about women keeping themselves in the picture and making their health just as much of a priority as are their families and careers.”

“All of our imaging locations offer fully digital mammography, providing you with the latest in breast imaging technology.”

“These electronic images are reviewed using high-resolution monitors which allow the radiologist to adjust the brightness, change the contrast, and zoom in for close-ups of specific areas of interest.  Coupled with digital CAD (computer aided detection) - essentially a second set of eyes for the radiologists - abnormal tissue areas are flagged to assist the radiologist in the early detection of breast cancer.”

“And in addition to digital mammography, we offer breast MRI, as well as stereotactic, ultrasound-guided and MRI-guided breast biopsy,” she added.

A small gift (a $6 value – while supplies last) will be provided to women who get a mammogram at a Lake Pointe facility during October to encourage them to do so.

Lake Pointe Health Network, a part of Tenet Healthcare Corporation, is a locally-focused health network developed by Lake Pointe Medical Center and designed to improve access to healthcare services in Rockwall, Rowlett, Royse City and the surrounding communities.

Mammograms may be obtained at Lake Pointe Medical Center,  6800 Scenic Dr, Rowlett; Lake Pointe Imaging Center in Rockwall, 1005 W. Ralph Hall Pkwy, suite 121; and Lake Pointe Imaging Center in Forney, 763 E. State Highway 80, suite 120.
