Stranded Russian acrobatic horse show performing in Rockwall Sat. night

By J.J. Smith. The highly-artistic acrobatic Russian horse show “Artania,” which was unexpectedly stranded in Dallas but relocated this past week to Rockwall’s new Black Star Sport Horsese Equestrian facility, will start performing again this Saturday night at 7 pm.

The Las Vegas-style show, which some describe as a cross between Cirque du Soleil and a circus, will be held in Black Star’s huge arena, located just south of Hwy. 549, just west of Hwy. 205 in Heath. The address is 5565 FM 549, Rockwall TX 75032.

The show was more popular in Canada, received better reviews and actually outsold Cirque du Soleil, according to Black Star owner Lisa Blackmon, who invited the 19-horse act to their stables after hearing they had difficulties in Dallas.

She said the troupe is expected to stay in Heath for two more weeks and then return to perform in Canada.

“This performance at Black Star is actually a brand new version of the show, customized to our facility, with more of a focus on the horses, but less on highwire acts.”

“Even people who see horses every day can see some unique horses in this show,” said Blackmon.

“Three of the horses are an ancient Asian breed which is the oldest horse breed in the world – even older than Arabians. All of the these Russian horses have extremely soft, goldish-white coats. The color really sets them apart.”

She said the 19 horses are also receiving the best of care after some concerns were publicly expressed in Dallas about their lack of water and other necessities.

“The horses lack for nothing here,” she explained. “Two grooms stay with the horses 24/7, and they are watered and fed three times a day, turned out to grass daily and hand-groomed daily. Each horse has a separate stall and is treated extremely well.”

General admission ticket prices for all performances are $35 per person, and VIP tables up front for six people cost $450 each.

Next weekend, performances will continue at Black Star, Friday and Saturday at 7 pm, plus Saturday and Sunday at 4 pm.  Tickets should be purchased at the gate.
