Rockwall suffers second loss to Mesquite Poteet 9-2; softball season ends

WYLIE-Rockwall’s District 10A championship softball team lost their second game in a row to Mesquite Poteet yesterday, this time 9-2, in their Class 4A Region II semi-final best-of-three game series.

The loss eliminated Rockwall from the playoffs, ending the Yellow Jackets’ highly successful season with a 26-13 record.

The Lady Jackets could only get six hits and committed three errors.

After beating Poteet in the first series game Thursday, 2-0, the Lady Jackets lost Friday, 4-1, and again yesterday.

The bottom three of Poteet’s batting order  – Jordan Wright, Mackenzie Middlebrook and Jessi Black – led the way, going 4-for-6, scoring three runs and three RBIs, two sacrifices and one stolen base.

They did most of their damage in Poteet’s five-run third inning, in which Poteet took a 6-2 lead. That was enough for winning pitcher Bradie Baker, who struck out four Lady Jackets and retired the last 10 of 11 batters.

Rockwall’s Kat Brown was the losing pitcher, giving up 12 hits.

Mesquite Poteet (33-8-1), which finished second in District 15A play, advances this week to again play District 15A champion Forney (35-6), which has a 30-game winning streak, in the Class 4A Region II finals.
