Rockwall softball beats Mesquite Poteet, 4-1, in regional semi-finals

WYLIE-Rockwall leadoff hitter Shelby Frierson went 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored and Kat Brown threw a five-hitter as Rockwall’s girls softball team defeated Mesquite Poteet, 4-1, Thursday night in the first game of their Class 4A Region II semi-final best-of-three game series at Wylie.

The Yellow Jackets (28-11) had ten hits and took advantage of three Poteet errors. Mesquite Poteet (31-8-1) pitcher Bradie Baker was the losing pitcher.

Rockwall took an early 3-0 lead after two innings. First baseman Haley Lemons had two RBIs.

Both teams will meet again tonight at 7 pm in Wylie. If Rockwall wins, the Lady Jackets will advance to next week’s regional finals.

If Poteet wins, their final series game will be Saturday at Noon at Wylie.

Rockwall finished the regular season in first place in District 10A. Mesquite Poteet finished the regular season in second place in District 15A.
