Young Rockwall man dies when car smashes into trees in Arlington

ARLINGTON — A 19-year-old Rockwall man died early Saturday when his car left the road and hit two trees.

Arlington police said Phillip S. Lara was traveling south in the 5100 block of South Collins Street about 3 a.m. when he lost control of his 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo in a curve.

The right front of Lara’s car hit a tree, then flipped and hit another tree, according to Tiara Ellis, police spokesman.

Lara’s Monte Carlo caught fire and partially burned after the accident, police said.

Lara was believed to have been killed on impact, Ellis wrote in a news release.
