Rockwall County unemployment rate hits February record high

DALLAS-More people were listed as unemployed last February than during any other February this past century, according to a report issued by the Texas Workforce Commission recently.

More than 100 jobs were lost locally between January and February and more than 700 positions in the county have disappeared in the past year.

Rockwall County posted a 6.5 percent unemployment rate last month, unchanged from January, but well above the 3.8 percent unemployment rate listed in February 2008.

There were 35,007 people listed as employed in Rockwall County by the agency during February, 104 less than in January and 712 fewer than in February one year earlier.

Rockwall County is listed by the Texas Workforce Commission as part of the Dallas-Plano-Irving Metropolitan Division.
